Yikes! Its Ike!

This is the email Greg out today to our family as we begin to prepare for Hurricane Ike:

Looks like we are getting a visit from hurricane Ike. We have a family emergency plan and we are prepared to shelter in place and ride this one out. We are far enough inland that the winds at our home should be at a level that we would not have any major damage. We are stocked with supplies and have topped off our gas/batteries/fuel. We will be protecting the large windows in the family room but are otherwise in good shape. We also have tarps and the like just in case we do have some damage.

We do also have an evacuation plan if that is needed. We would head to Austin where we have friends prepared to take us in. There are mandatory evacuations for an umber of areas closer to the coast but we are well outside of the storm surge area. The general advice is to run from the water and hide from the wind so we are hiding at this time.

Our ward emergency plan has been activated also so we have plenty of help near at hand if needed. The stake is also preparing and I know they have begun prepositioning emergency supplies. This is mainly for the areas along the coast that will be harder hit but is available if needed. It looks to be more likely we will be sending work crews to help with damage than that we would need help.
